Hey Legends! šŸ®šŸ“ˆ

I feel inclined to share that my mini position in $TSLA ( ā–² 4.02% ) has soared as Elon Musk bought $1 billion in shares of his own company, finally pushing Tesla into positive territory year-to-date. Hopefully this means that Musk is fully committed to Tesla again so I can fuel my generational 2025 run and ego.

Ok, thanks for listening. Oh! And thank you to Wharton & WallStreetPrep for sponsoring today’s issue.

Finance Recaps

šŸ“ˆRate Cut!: J. Pow delivered a 25 bps (0.25%) cut to the U.S. policy rate on Wednesday. Trump’s opinion? It should be 3% lower for housing to ā€œsoarā€. The rate is currently 4% - 4.25% but it is expected to drop further to 3.50% by years end, or until the fed loses independence, idk whichever comes first.

šŸ“ˆNvidia Goes All In(tel): CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang announced a $5 Bn partnership with Intel in a conference call on Thursday. Intel surged 23% on the news (FOMO-ing pretty hard) and Nvidia dropped 3%. Under the new agreement, Intel will supply Nvidia with custom CPUs.

šŸ“ˆSlow and Steady Wins the Race: Between 2010 and 2021 the Bank of Japan purchased over $220 Bn worth of ETFs in order to stimulate the Japanese economy, now, they plan on selling $2.2 Bn a year. And unless they invent cryogenic sleep, I won’t be able to see the 100-year plan play out.

šŸ“ˆGold Rush IPO: With gold sitting at its highest price since 1973, China’s Zijin Mining is seeking to cash in. Zijin is planning on raising $25 Bn HK ($3.2 Bn US) which would make it the largest Asian IPO this year. The gold mining company would use the proceeds to increase production capacity.

šŸŒŽTiki-Tok with Xi and Trump: President Trump and President Xi had a phone call Friday. They touched base on trade, fentanyl, Ukraine, and TikTok’s U.S. operations. Xi says he wishes for a resolution to the latter. A rumoured framework for the deal caps ByteDance’s (TikTok’s parent company) stake at 20%, whilst the other 80% will be held by U.S. investors.

šŸŒŽFree Speech, But Only If…: Trump suggested TV networks could lose their FCC licenses because of negative coverage of him. He also praised ABC for yanking Jimmy Kimmel Live! off-air after Kimmel joked that MAGA Republicans were spinning the murder of Charlier Kirk to fit a narrative. These series of moves have raised free speech fears in the U.S.

šŸŒŽScheduled Recognition: The UK is preparing to formally recognise a Palestinian state within days, likely after Trump concludes his state visit. UK Prime Minister Starmer has sharply criticised Israel’s military actions in Gaza, and believes recognition as essential to the viability of a two-state solution.

šŸŒŽNATO: 3, Russia: 0: NATO jets reacted (again) to Russia breaching a member-country’s airspace. Estonia joins the list with Poland and Romania who have all had brief interactions with Russia as the conflict in Ukraine continues.

šŸ‘”Trump’s Plan For Earnings Season: Following a post by Trump, SEC Chair Paul Atkins will propose a rule change: listed companies only have to report earnings 2 times a year (down from 4). The pros: cheaper and less time consuming for firms. The cons: potential for more fraud (Enron 2.0?).

šŸ‘”Ticketmaster Faces Heat for Scalping: The FTC has brought a lawsuit against Ticketmaster and Live Nation for colluding with resellers of tickets to push up ticket pricing and extract the highest fees from customers possible, anyone still burnt from the Eras tour?

šŸ‘”If You Can’t Hire, Acquire: The creator of our favourite work software, Atlassian, has just snapped up a productivity platform, DX, for a cool $1 Bn. Apparently Atlassian was attempting to make a tool like DX for 3 years but decided buying was the best option.

šŸ‘”New Glasses: The Zuck revealed Meta’s second generation of smart glasses on Wednesday at the annual Meta Connect conference. He also showed off the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses (above) which will be perfect for our Strava-obsessed friends.

🤪Was ā€˜Here With Me’ About A Child?: A 15 y/o SoCal teen was found dead in a Tesla registered to singer D4vd. Online speculation points to photos and matching tatoos suggesting D4vd was in a relationship with this teen. As of now D4vd is not charged and is cooperating with police.

🤪Seat Warmers Now Standard for Corvettes!: GM has issued a recall of more than 23,000 Corvettes, citing a defective cooling fan could spray spilt fuel onto the engines causing it to burst in flames. This recall affects the high-end Z06 and ZR1 models.

🤪Orangeaddon: Florida just reported its worst growing season for our fave citrus since the Great Depression (1932). Orange produce is down 32% this year and the price of OJ is up 20% to approx $3 US/Litre (~5 AUD).

🤪WFH → Back in Office → WFH: The state of Victoria is attempting to legislate a mandatory 2 days a week work-from-home (WFH) in most employee contracts. However, as the bill enters parliament controversy around potential negative productivity impacts continue.
